Steve Friedlander and a delegation of 29 people from Whistling Straits near Sheboygan are off to Chaska, Minn., this week on a fact-finding mission at the PGA Championship.
When the PGA comes to Whistling Straits from Aug.9 through 15 in 2004, Friedlander -- general manager and director of golf for Kohler Co. -- and what is now a modest tournament committee will have plenty of company. According to Friedlander, it will take up to 7,000 people - including at least 3,700 volunteers - to stage the first major on Wisconsin fairways since the 1933 PGA at Bluemound Country Club in Milwaukee.
