Andrade Haughton is a computer science major at Syracuse University. Instead of working for a computer company this summer, he chose to help children improve their reading skills.
"I've always wanted to tutor," Haughton said.
Haughton, 20, of Brooklyn, is a member of the SU Literacy Corps. The work-study program had 31 tutors this summer, the largest summer group since the program started in 1997 with 15 members.
The program runs year round and has about 150 tutors participating during the academic year.
