LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. _ Tough new building regulations _ a year in the works _ could make it more difficult for people to build huge homes that dwarf the community's quaint cottages.
The Laguna Beach Planning Commission approved the "mansionization" restrictions by a 5-0 vote Wednesday night.
The City Council will have the final say at a future meeting.
"This is really important," Planning Commissioner Anne Johnson said before the meeting. "This is going to affect everybody who builds or remodels a home in the community."
The recommendations include a 36-foot height restriction on any new home.
