EPA-Certified Flex Fuel Car Has Formaldehyde `Bug'
Chevrolet's Lumina, a new flexible fuel vehicle designed to burn M85, a blend of 85 percent methanol and 15 percent gasoline, has one "bug" which hasn't been worked out, says Tom Austin, spokesman for Sierra Research, Inc., a California emissions testing firm.
That flaw, he says, is its inability to effectively screen out formaldehyde, a toxic, smog-forming compound found in both gasoline and methanol.
