Chevron Wins Cambodian Contract
Cambodia said Thursday it had awarded an offshore oil exploration contract to US giant ChevronTexaco, renewing exploration in the southeast Asian nation's waters for the first time since 1998.
At an official signing ceremony in Phnom Penh, Cambodian National Petroleum Authority Chairman Sok An said Chevron had been granted a 70% interest in "Block A," about 75 miles offshore in the Gulf of Thailand.
The remaining 30% of the 2,423 square miles site had been awarded to Japan's Mitsui Oil Exploration Co., Sok An said.
