This year, I went on a giant family tour. (Get it? Gi-ANT! Ha-ha!) Wow--I had no idea that those other ants were so, well, weird. Take a look for yourself.
MY NUTTY FAMILY
In the photo below, we big sisters are taking care of our baby sisters. We're acorn ants, and frankly our home is nuts. Really! It turns out that most ants don't live in nuts like we do--they live in underground nests or in logs, leaves, or other plant parts. But we ALL live in groups called colonies.
Colonies come in all sizes. There can be as few as 35 ants in one--or more than a million. Most of the colony members are female workers. We also have one or more queens to lay ...
