Aug. 16--The Chicago Plan Commission approved designs Thursday for an $800 million expansion of McCormick Place.
Project officials said the work would add 800,000 square feet to the complex, boosting total exhibition space to 2.8 million square feet.
Expanding McCormick Place would keep the city and state competitive for meeting business and allow several conventions to be held at the same time, said Jon Clay, acting chief operating officer of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. The authority operates McCormick Place and Navy Pier.
