BIOGEN INC. and Celltech Group PLC report two Phase III studies of CDP 571, their humanized anti-TNF-alpha antibody product, did not meet primary end points in Chrohn's disease. Earlier this year, Celltech and Biogen formed a collaboration for the research, development, manufacturing and commercialization of CDP 571.
"CDP 571 may be salvageable. Yet, given the proximity of follow-up anti-TNF alpha antibody fragment CDP 870, due to begin Phase III trials for Chrohn's disease before the end of 2002, and given that CDP 870's gross margin is above 90 percent versus around 70 percent for CDP 571, the discontinuation of CDP 571 is a real possibility," says Goldman ...
