Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson - owned by Swedish telecoms firm Ericsson and Japanese electronics giant Sony - has confirmed that it will design, make and sell next generation handsets in China.

With a line of models boasting colour screens and digital cameras - backed by an aggressive advertising campaign - the firm hopes to make a splash in China's mobile phone market, the world's biggest with more than 176 million mobile users.
