Mg Technologies (Frankfurt) is looking to its chemical operations more than ever to deliver the growth and profit performance that analysts say it needs to turn around its languishing share price. The group, formerly known as Metallgesellschaft, has been drastically restructured since huge losses incurred by its oil trading arm in late 1993 nearly bankrupted the company. Divestitures included metals and metals trading--the business that was the origin of the company in 1881--and left Mg Technologies focusing on two operations, engineering and chemicals.
