Multinational research and development firms Aventis Crop Science (ACS) and Monsanto Philippines Inc. (MPI) have tied up with the Million Jobs Program (MJP) for the production of hybrid rice seeds.
While the Philippine Rice Research Institute has intended to plant hybrid rice on 135,000 hectares this year, 200,000 hectares in 2003, and 300,000 hectares in 2004 so that the country can achieve rice sufficiency, the limited supply of seeds has been seen to potentially limit the governments rice sufficiency program.
