The environment and natural resources committee of the 25-member Commission on Appointments (CA) formally recommended yesterday the confirmation in today's plenary session of the appointment of Heherson T. Alvarez as secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The decision was made after 20 members of the committee chaired by Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr. signed a petition stating that they neither accept nor reject Alvarez's ad-interim appointment. The petition, signed by the majority members, had the effect of short-circuiting a regular committee hearing.
