Strategies to prevent HIV infection and treat people with AIDS must change with the changing face of AIDS, a gathering in Madison was told Monday.

In the past 20 years, the incidence of HIV infection and AIDS among minorities in Wisconsin has grown from a fraction of cases reported each year to some 57 percent of new cases in 2000-01, said Neil Hoxie of the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.

Representatives of agencies serving people with HIV/AIDS and community-based minority groups gathered at an African-American and Latino HIV/AIDS Summit sponsored by the Urban League of Greater Madison.
