Study after study tells us that Americans keep getting fatter. Now a new report on food waste generation shows that it's not because we're eating everything in sight.

Research by the University of Arizona concludes that the average household generates 474 pounds of food debris a year, well above earlier estimates of 156 pounds. The study still is ongoing and focused on residential generation, but it indicates a disturbing trend.
