With intensification of the AIDS epidemic, AIDS/HIV education has become a priority for health professionals and educators working with children. The increasing incidence of AIDS in adolescents and the high number of AIDS cases among people in their twenties who most likely contracted AIDS in adolescence, point to the critical importance of introducing AIDS/HIV education in the elementary school years. [1] The U.S. Surgeon General and others have advocated that AIDS/HIV education, in some form, occur for all students at each school level (elementary, middle, high school) so children will grow up knowing how to protect themselves from exposure to the AIDS virus.
