The number of school-age children with AIDS continues to increase. As of April 1990, 2,692 U.S. children and adolescents had been diagnosed with AIDS. [1] Since many of these young people are presently in school or probably will be in the near future, an estimated one in three teachers will instruct a child with AIDS in the next five years. [2]
Preventing HIV Transmission is the major defense against AIDS, and education is recognized as a key to prevention.
