One of the oldest wineries in California
reopened under a new name, with new owners. Lee and Shirley Sobon have made a success of their Shenandoah Vineyards label of Amador County and recently opened the Sobon Estate on 113 acres of land, only a few miles away from their first location. The new venture is the former D'Agostini Winery, the third oldest in the state, and perhaps the first spot in California where Zinfandel vines were planted. The new Sobon establishment was founded in 1856 by a Swiss immigrant, Adam Uhlinger, who brought vines from Europe. The vineyard produced wine for the miners of the Gold Rush.
