Introduction

To improve measurement quality in research, consideration should be given to the reliability of the measurements that are used. Reliability refers to "the degree to which a measurement produces systematic or reproducible variation" (Shrout, 1995, p. 213). Critically examining factors that may affect reliability, such as the variability of the trait being studied and respondents' understanding of questions improves the quality of the measurement.
