HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is reviewing a variety of advanced technologies for incorporation into its ballistic missile defense architectures, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assist in boost phase intercept and other missile defense scenarios, government and industry officials told Defense Daily.
While UAV's might not be best utilized as combat options in missile defense scenarios due to range and payload capabilities, MDA officials suggest they could provide beneficial over-the-horizon intelligence and target tracking functions.
