New York, NY (Sports Network) - Houston Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt will appeal a five game suspension handed to him on Friday by Major League Baseball.

Oswalt was also fined an undisclosed amount of cash for hitting Alex Gonzalez of the Chicago Cubs on August 12. The suspension was scheduled to start on Saturday, but the penalty has been delayed until Oswalt can have a hearing before Bob DuPuy, MLB's chief operating officer.
