CANBERRA, Aug 27 Asia Pulse - Federal cabinet is finalising details of a US$100 million (A$183.96 million) rescue package that will include a sugar levy in a bid to save the nation's ailing sugar industry.
A sugar levy, either at the retail or manufacturing level, is almost certain to feature in a package that is likely to include some funds from the Queensland government.
The government is also close to mandating the use of ethanol - which can be produced from sugar cane and grain crops - in the nation's petrol tanks in a bid to help cane growers.
