Aug. 28--CHICAGO--Two cities with enormous international stature -- San Francisco and New York -- were named finalists Tuesday in the domestic race to win the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The decision by a U.S. Olympic Committee task force eliminated Washington and Houston and boosted the Bay Area's chances of carrying America's bid. The USOC board of directors will pick its candidate Nov. 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

That choice will compete with as many as a dozen cities -- including Budapest, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Toronto -- that could enter the ...
