Aug. 29--LOXAHATCHEE, Fla.--Joe's Honey, a longtime fixture in Florida pantries, is no more.
The Loxahatchee-based packer known for its distinctive black-eyed honey-bear bottle with the pointed yellow cap ceased production in late July. It had 12 employees.
Edward Stillman, president of Joe's Honey and its owner since 1999, attributes his company's fatal financial woes to the end of duty-free importation of cheap honey from Argentina and China and a subsequent rise in the price of honey produced in Florida.
