Flushing Meadows, NY (Sports Network) - Americans Venus Williams and Monica Seles posted second-round victories on a rainy Thursday at the 2002 U.S. Open.
However, the two players took very different routes, as the second-seeded Williams pounded Austrian Alicia Molik, 6-1, 6-2, while No. 6 Seles had to rally for a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Barbara Schwartz.
Williams, the two-time defending champion, committed 19 unforced errors, but also hit 21 winners compared to just nine for Molik.
