Are there too many real estate agents?
Some real estate executives think so. As recently as July, at the Inman News Features' annual real estate technology conference in San Francisco, officials from real estate firms and trade groups were predicting that the number of agents and firms would decline precipitously in coming years.
The main reason, of course, is technology, and growing public access to information that once was the sole property of real estate practitioners.
Not only would there be fewer agents, but the standard 6 percent commission would fall to 4.5 percent or 3 percent as firms competed for business, they predicted.
