PROJECT OVERVIEW:
A Sino/French joint venture in the making was recently established in view of looking into the feasibility of building a new aluminum smelter in China. The partners in the proposed undertaking include the local LANZHOU ALUMINIUM CO. and France-based ALUMINIUM PECHINEY, a subsidiary of PECHINEY S.A.
Construction plans under consideration would involve building a plant with an installed production capacity of 250,000 metric tons per year. The project would also include the construction of a captive power station. The complex, of undisclosed cost, would be sited in Gansu.
