The New York hospital community was taken aback last week upon learning that a stalwart, Barry Freedman, president of Mount Sinai Medical Center, was summarily removed and will be succeeded by Larry Hollier, M.D., the hospital's senior vice president of medical affairs.
The shake-up, effective Sept. 3, is being done ``to anchor the hospital's future as a physician-led organization,'' officials said in a written statement. Freedman will assist in the management transition and provide consultative services after that date, they said.
