Prime Time To Securitize Commercial Mortgages
CHICAGO - Current conditions in the commercial mortgage market have made securitization the option of choice for insurers, banks and thrifts looking to sell their holdings, according to David D. Tibbals, managing director of Salomon Brothers, New York.
Speaking at Duff & Phelps' second annual conference for the life insurance industry, Mr. Tibbals said that through most of the '80s, there was little motivation to sell commercial mortgages, since "the last thing [lenders] wanted was to raise extra cash."
Today, however, the market is heading toward the other extreme.
