Uruguay, once the Southern Cone's financial paradise, found itself in the eye of a new political and economic storm stemming from the crisis that has rocked Argentina since December (see NotiSur, 2002-06-28).
As economists and politicians warn that the economic problems could spread further, some are calling for the Southern Cone Common Market (MERCOSUR) to take a stronger stand.
