IN 2001 there were 20 reported cases of human brucellosis and since 1998 a total of 41 cases have been reported in Northern Ireland.
Yet, in the period 1985-1997, there were no cases. As this disease is normally contracted directly from animals there is only one conclusion namely that this recent outbreak of human brucellosis is directly linked to the current outbreak in our animal herd.
