HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Health Secretary Robert S. Zimmerman Jr. today reported that preliminary test results show that a resident in Pennsylvania has contracted West Nile virus.
The individual, a 66-year-old Lancaster County man, is currently recovering from the illness.
The Department of Health State Health Laboratory in Lionville, Chester County, performed the tests and the results are 95 percent accurate. A final confirmatory test will be done by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
If confirmed, this will be the first human case of West Nile virus in Pennsylvania this year and the fourth in Pennsylvania since the disease was identified in the ...
