Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The seemingly unstoppable Oakland Athletics will attempt to surpass a franchise record for consecutive wins, when they close out their three-game series with the Central-leading Minnesota Twins this afternoon at the Coliseum.
Oakland has tied the franchise-best mark of 17 straight wins, set in 1931 when the club was still based in Philadelphia. The A's are now just one short of the 1953 New York Yankees' 18-game winning streak. However, Oakland is still eight games short of baseball's all-time longest winning streak (26) set by the 1916 Giants.
