In May 17, 2002 the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, made an official declaration. From that day on, the date would be celebrated as 'Colors of the Earth Day." The seeds for this new tradition were planted when an organization called Leadership Cincinnati decided to create projects tailored to community healing after last year's riots. One of their original concepts, a community garden of plants brought in by gardeners from all around the city, has become a successful and far-reaching program.
