Exercise has important benefits for the population, and there is growing evidence that exercise has a key role in the management of diabetes. Tackling obesity and inactivity may reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes. In this article, Dr Allison Jump describes the development of in-surgery exercise classes for patients with diabetes. The classes have been successful in changing the way that the patients view exercise. Weight loss has been achieved, and it is fully expected that other outcomes will be improved at the end of the period.
