The process of Europeanisation has received considerable academic attention, including a dedicated issue of this journal. (1) Whilst not defined consistently (see below) the concept is commonly used to signify the impact of European Union (EU) policies, structures and process on the national arena. It has been applied to help explain changes in various domestic policies, administration structures and institutions, or entire member states. More recently, literature exploring the possible European causes of national party change and adaptation has begun to expand, (2) but the party focus remains relatively understudied and neglected.
