The resurgence of national-level bargaining on income policies and other economic issues during the 1980s and 1990s in a number of European states, such as Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, or Ireland, challenges the undoing of Schmitter's 'Century of Corporatism'. (1) This article analyses the resurgence of national-level social bargaining in two such European states: Portugal and Spain.
