History surrounds us in this world--sometimes its artifacts are visible to the naked eye, sometimes not. Whatever the size, from enormous ancient pyramids to tiny pottery fragments, chemistry can delve below the surface to decipher the significance of archeological artifacts.
This can be done thanks to a number of modern, rapid, precise, accurate and inexpensive analytical procedures usually employed by scientists studying natural materials like air, water, minerals and rocks. However, the potential of these instruments to answer perplexing archaeological questions is untapped.
