Article: State Regulator Slams Household Practices.

After investigating Household International for more than a year and issuing a scathing report on its lending practices, state regulators in Washington are seriously considering bringing an enforcement action against the subprime lending giant.

"If we invest these types of resources into a case, it almost always ends up in some sort of charges being filed. Not always, but almost always," said Chuck Cross, chief of enforcement for the state Department of Financial Institutions.

DFI began investigating the Illinois-based consumer finance company in 1999 when consumer complaints about Household's mortgage lending practices began to accelerate.
