The EU's police agency Europol has opened a liaison office in Washington D.C. in an effort to boost transatlantic co-operation, in particular in fighting terrorism and drug-trafficking. The opening took place on August 30 in the presence of senior EU and US officials, including Europol Director Jurgen Storbeck. The office will be manned by two Europol officers whose mandate will be to exchange information on investigation methods with the US customs, intelligence (FBI) and drugs (DEA) agencies.
