White's tax abatement plan may boost historic buildings
Mayor White's proposed property tax abatement policy includes a new abatement for the restoration of historic buildings. The addition is something developers and preservation advocates believe could spur renovation, particularly downtown.
"This gives us a carrot as well as the stick we need to use all the time," said Robert Keiser, secretary of the city of Cleveland's Landmarks Commission, which oversees protection of city landmarks.
