Faced with declining attendance, the trust that operates the J. Paul Getty Museum has cut its nearly $500,000 subsidy to the Big Blue Bus, ending direct service to the institution.

Kurt Williams, director of operations at The J. Paul Getty Trust, said ridership on Line 14 of the system, owned and operated by the city of Santa Monica, had declined significantly since service started in 1997.

The dip coincides with diminished attendance at the museum, which is projected to total 1.4 million this year, down from 1.8 million in 1997.
