Tom Binns Shifts Gears
NEW YORK - Fashion jewelry designer Tom Binns is changing his tune.
When Binns moved here from London a year ago, he was quickly recognized for his elaborate jewelry, such as the 50-strand seed pearl necklace hanging from chin to belly button, which he designed for Isaac Mizrahi's fashion show in April.
"In Europe I could do more strange and funny things," said Binns, citing a pin he molded from a fork as an example. "But in America they want more dynamic and modern jewelry - less fuss.
"The jewelry I was designing was fun but unnecessary," continued Binns. "It's not what everyone wants to wear."
