RETAILERS' OCT. SAME-STORE SALES SLIP
NEW YORK (FNS) - Department stores continued to feel the squeeze of tightened consumer spending last month, with most reporting a decline in same-store sales despite vigorous apparel business.
Dayton Hudson Corp.; Gottschalks, Inc.; The Gap, Inc., and Merry-Go-Round Enterprises, Inc., scored strong total and same-store gains.
Retailers reporting same-store declines in October include Sears, Roebuck & Co., The May Department Stores Co., the Neiman Marcus Group, J.C. Penney Co. and Carter Hawley Hale Stores. Inc.
