BOB HOPE celebrates his 100th birthday next year. He was born Leslie Hope on May 29, 1903, in a modest Edwardian terrace house in Eltham, South-East London.
The comedian was the fifth of seven sons born to William, a stonemason, and Avis, a concert singer.They had bought the house new, and it was designed by British architect Archibald Cameron Corbett.
The family moved to Bristol when Bob was four and then to Cleveland, Ohio, where they became U.S. citizens. Bob doesn't recall his place of birth and has quipped that he was 'born in England, raised in Cleveland and schooled in vaudeville'.
