WAS IT A CHILLY DAY? Did mist swirl around the group of black-clad mourners at the grave site? Was there perhaps a ghostly pistol shot in the distance?
History doesn't record the exact grave-side conditions on April 2, 1888--the day the body of Jesse James was lowered into the grave. Undoubtedly his widow and children were sad.
But was Jesse himself one of the mourners? Did he fake his own death and attend his own funeral? That's what some people think--and that's a mystery.
