The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Md., is planning to limit future patent rights of foreign grant and contract recipients by the end of the year. According to the new policy, a foreign researcher who receives NIH funding will only be able to hold patent rights in their own country. NIH will retain those rights everywhere else to avoid putting US companies at a disadvantage, reports "Science" magazine. Exceptions could be made on a case-by-case basis.
