NEW YORK -- The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Michael Oliver, arrived in New York today to present London's specially-cast "Bell of Hope" to New Yorkers at a service at Trinity Wall Street tomorrow.
The new bell is given in remembrance of September 11th and recognizes the strong and historic links between the financial capitals of the UK and the US.
The bell was made in the same Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London that cast "Bow Bells," the first Liberty Bell, the original ring of eight bells for Trinity Church, and London's own "Big Ben," as well as the clock bells of St. Paul's. The new bronze bell weighs 650 lbs and measures 31 inches in ...
