LOS ANGELES _ Attorneys for Bill Simon urged a Los Angeles judge Tuesday to throw out a $78 million fraud verdict that has tossed a wrench into the Republican investor's foundering campaign for governor.
With aides to Gov. Gray Davis looking on in the courtroom, a battery of Simon's attorneys worked to persuade Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant to set aside a jury verdict that found Simon's investment firm guilty of defrauding the owner of a pay phone company.
