Imagine three of the Minnesota Orchestra's past music directors - Dimitri Mitropoulos, Antal Dorati and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski - dining out together. Such a thing, of course, never actually happened. Mitropoulos and Dorati are long gone, but the question intrigued Henry Kramer, a violinist who worked closely with all three conductors.
Which of the three would do the most talking?
"Dorati," Kramer said.
And who would pick up the check?
"Mitropoulos," he answered without pause - a reasonable response given Mitropoulos' legendary generosity.
