BEA & HP partner to take on IBM. (Update: trends / standards / products).

Hewlett-Packard's (HP) departure from the application server market helps BEA Systems fill a hole in its enterprise strategy, says a report from Gartner Group. HP announced it's dropping a large portion of its e-business software line by discontinuing the Netaction Application Server (the Bluestone J2EE application server it acquired in 2001), Netaction Web Services Platform, and HP Web Services Registry products. HP is estimated to have held about 4 percent of the application server market.
